Cloth Diaper Update

Cloth diapering is going very well! I’m super happy with how easy it is and how well Thomas is taking them. If I had known, I would have made the switch a long time ago.

I do a wash every night, as I only have 13 diapers, we go through about 6 a day. I use a fleece liner and reusable wipes. No trash.

Dirty diapers get cleaned in the toilet. I use a spoon to scrape off the poo. Then rinced very well in the tub. Afterwards, the tub gets a bleach treatment and rinced. Into an open pail they go until Thomas is in bed for the night. They get a pre-rince in the washer on fast agitation. Then a good wash with an extra rince cycle. With the small amount of diapers, I do a mini wash altogether.

After the wash, I air dry the shells, liners and wipes. If I have a load of other laundry for the dryer, the inserts go with it or else they get air dried too.

I could probably go longer between washes, but I find it easier to wash at night when the household has settled down, rather than in the middle of the day and only having a few diapers left before I wash the load. I really don’t want to run out of clean diapers. Maybe I will invest in more, but Thomas will be out of them in under a year from now, hopefully.

Thanks to all the moms out there who helped me along the way! A big thank you to my husband for supporting me!

A load all cleaned and dried.
